TTEC 4848 Day 1 - Computer systems of a vehicle

Diagram of an automotive computer system

ECU receives a voltage signal from an input device. Input device can be a switch, a button or a sensor.
During a practical class, we have inspected some of the input sensors as follows.
1. Throttle position sensor(TPS)
2. Manifold absolute pressure sensor(MAP)
3. Mass airflow sensor(MAF)
4. Coolant temperature sensor(CTS)
5. Air temperature sensor(ATS)
6. Knock sensor
7. Oxygen sensor

After ECU has processed the input signals, it sends voltage signals or comands to other devicess in the system such as system actuators. An actuator is an electrical or mechanical output device that converts electrical energy into a mechanical action.(e.g heat, light, motion, ignition timing)
